Open literacy center in your area

Last weekend I attended a meeting of an organization called "The Literacy Program in Developing Countries (LPIDC)". It is managed by several persons in Washington area including Ada Aleem Brohi.

The objectives of The Literacy Program in Developing Countries (LPIDC) are:

· Promote Basic Literacy: Develop ability to read & write
· Provide Free of Cost Basic Literacy to the children of families of minimum resources
· Provide Earning Opportunity at ‘One Child One Hundred Rupees’ to local educated individual'(s) participating in the promotion of the literacy program as Teacher.

It has already established about 30 centers in different parts of Pakistan. One center has been established in Tando Yusuf with help of Ada Aleem Brohi. If you have questions or comments please feel to email them at: info@lpidc.org

The basic Concept is as follows:
-One Teacher One Center: One teacher for 30 students
·Teaching Model:
Develop reading & writing skills. Reading & writing material provided and kept at school
Education on one-to-one personal attention basis
No homework
Frequent parent/teacher meetings for parental participation and timely assistance for better results
·Program supervision by honorary volunteers (coordinators) in USA & other developing countries (Pakistan now). Actual expenses like car mileage, phone calls are paid ,if requested
The program is being funded by:
Individual membership
Family membership
Individual/family/business sponsorship

Description:
· Program duration : 2 years maximum
· Center timings: 3 hours by an individual teacher at timings mutually suitable
· Center size: maximum 30 students. If the number exceeds, establish another center in the vicinity.
· Subjects taught: English, Science, Arithmetic, local language & hygiene. Emphasis on the development of positive behavior & self esteem
· Center space: verandah, garage, canvass tent or a room in the teachers house
· Other facilities provided: floor-mats.

WE CAN REQUEST THEM TO OPEN A CENTER IN YOUR VILLAGE OR AREA OF CHOICE. THEY SIMPLY NEED A ROOM FOR CLASS AND SERVICES OF A LOCAL FEMALE GRADUATE WHO CAN TEACH THE KIDS. THE TEACHER WILL BE PAID UPTO 3000 RUPEES PER MONTH.
LET US KNOW.

Your input and help towards development of Sindh is always welcome.
